Twin Falls, HI

Our third day brought some serious adventures and we dared to brave the amazing Road to Hana. Even though Max HATES the car more than he hates Satan, we decided we needed to do at least some of this very long drive. So we packed him up and brought lots of toys (including his food source - Caitlin) and headed out. At the very beginning of our drive we saw a fruit stand called Twin Falls Farm Stand. Us being from Idaho basically required that we support it.
We bought a bag of fresh pinapple and some banana bread. Delicious.
So far Max had been a real trooper, even though we had many hours ahead of us.
Our first major stop was a set of waterfalls that required a tricky hike through bamboo and muddy trails. Here, the Jeff's mimic the bamboo all around us. You may be wondering, "who is that chick in the blue??" THAT is Bek! Bek came out from San Fran to make our Hawaii trip complete. She was a welcomed friend who took our trip to new and crazy levels.
Bek and Jeff demonstrate how to get close to the first waterfalls.
From the falls you could see the dense forest of bamboo we had hiked through. Just call me Panda Jeff.
Caitlin and I swam in a big way in this pool - including some rock diving. Don't worry, we checked for rocks.
Max stayed on the shore and played with Gramma Judes. They seriously had the best time ever...I could hear Max laughing his brains out while I was swimming.
Don't worry, he got his feet wet.
Jeff and Bek climbed even higher up to another set of pools. See - they were already taking it to new levels of awesome.
The second falls were much higher. Awesome. This is what you imagine when you think Hawaii...or at least after you imagine coconut bras.
Next we stopped for ice cream filled snow cones. Max got his first taste of sno cone and it may appear as if he didn't like it by the bummed out face he has. I think he was just trying to deal with how delicious something could be. See the picture below.
We couldn't get him to look at the camera because he was soooo obsessed with the sno cone. What a sweet kid (meaning, he's obsessed with sugar).
We broke off of the Road to Hana to go down to a peninsula of lava rock and watch the waves come in.
Excuse me, do you know where I can find me a sexy mofo? Oh yes, right there...the guy holding the baby.
Explosion of waves on the rocks. I love it.
It was crazy beautiful down there. I love you Maui.
This is as close to a family photo as we got on this trip - unfortunately Lynn wasn't there. Hey Max! You lookin' for a sno cone?
The fam. We hiked down further toward another section of the water and found some shade.
I almost ran my face into this spider, which was awesome.
you see what I'm saying about gorgeous awesomeness?
Jeff found a coconut and was determined to break it open and get to the goodness.
SUCCESS! Apparently that lava rock is wicked sharp. Noice. And then it was time to head back. Max communicated to us that he had had enough driving. We had him out and about for a solid 6 hours and that was more than he would ever want. He had done so good, and we were proud.
We stopped by Fred's Tacos for a late lunch - an amazing recommendation by Jenn. Thanks Jenn, our Hawaiian pro.
And that's our day. It was amazing and we loved it. I think one of the greatest things about Hawaii is the crazy diversity of land that exists on each island. We went from desert to rain forest in an hour. It got me excited to explore even more in the coming days.
