Apparently The Best Cake Ever

Fact: I am a student at Northwestern University
Fact: There are about 80 students in my program
Fact: About 40-50% of those students are Chinese/Taiwanese (another 20% are Indian)
False: Asians know how to make baked goods

The other day one of the Chinese girls in our program had a birthday. They invited El Wo to her bday party. As a responsible American, El Wo brought a birthday cake to share with the crowd. When she told the girl that she made the cake, the girl instantly turned and screamed to everyone: "Everyone! Liz made this cake herself!" D Wo was lucky enough to snap the following photo instantly as this statement was made:Liz instantly became the star of the show - instantly. She got a round of applause. She now has many people lined up at her door to learn how to bake cakes (she did it from the box). She is infinitely more popular than I am with the biggest demographic of our program. That picture speaks for itself.

Apparently they don't have traditional ovens there in most homes...just microwaves. Who knew? This program is teaching me all types of shiz.

Hi Jeff--

Yep. I am a baking star in Singapore as well. Imagine the response we would give to an Asian who brought Pot Stickers, Good Egg Rolls, or a noodle dish in America. We'll have to do Asian food at Christmas so that you can impress your new classmates!
