RAD - The Party

This is the face of a boy who is awaiting the calm before the storm. Max knew something was up, something big.
Maybe it was the fresh flowers in our house. Or maybe it was the balloons up on the walls.
Maybe it was the pink tablecloth and strategically placed "30s" all over.
Maybe it was the confetti rice krispee treats? Or maybe Max just ESPN or something because he quickly decided it was time to retire in the back room before the mass of people walked into our house for a defining hour of partiness.
Guests Jerms, Megarad and BoBanna pose.
Christopherson, Heathrow and Ells Yeah pose. The Shrink and Cheron Time pose. The hosts? Yeah...we pose as well. Finally - birthday girl Jazzy Jenna and Dennis pose. We had called everyone together to celebrate Jenna's 30th birthday. As we all know, 30 is a very pivotal moment in a human's life. Its a moment when you can decide if you are going to spend the rest of your adult life being lame and responsible...or if you are going to take life by the horns and just rock it. Well, these guys chose appropriately to enter the 30s. They did so in a way that honored Jenna's heritage - the 80's.
While not everyone chose to dress up - look for those that did. There is no shortage of side pony tails, head bands and neon in this picture. I love Caitlin's face in the back...hilarity.
Gentlemen, sport that wear. I rocked a woman's pink blazer with shoulder pads, shredded jeans, sweatband and neon shirt. Some people chose to rock it 80s Wall Street style? Dennis's jacket is phenomenal.
I also appreciated the double polo on Chris. Nice touch.
This was a party that really demonstrated the difference in all our lives from last year. Observe the quantity of little people in this picture! Its staggering. We had at least 15 kids in our apartment that night. We have truly graduated to family living.
But at least they are all cute - like Hannah here.
A combination of Easter and 80s snuck its way into the cake which was excellent.
Sometimes its embarrassing to the center of attention - but not as bad when you can hide behind your shades. There were a few brave souls like the studs above that were willing to move onto the second part of the party. Jenna and Dennis took it to the next level by having us drive 40 minutes into the suburbs to go here:That's right...the local roller rink. It smelled like a junior high school gym. The music was pumping while the college aged employees skated around telling you what you couldn't do. It was hilarious...that same childish desire to break the rules instantly surfaced when on the rink. They would say "no skating backwards" and I would instantly turn around backwards when their back was turned. Internally you just have to hate those guys from ruining your fun. These girls participated in a race and were paired up with 10 year olds. At least they beat 1 out of the 2 kids.
I also raced, but against the nerdy 15 year olds. I got 3rd and won a small soda. I forget how mad my skills are on the roller skates.

Seriously - how long has it been since you went roller skating? Do it - it will resurrect something inside of you that has been buried for a long time. Thanks Jenna for giving us all our youth back on your 30th.

Easter With My Peeps (in all its meanings)

When I say peeps - I ain't just talking about the disgusting marshmallow imitators. I'm talking about my people...or at least one person...who joined us for the holiday this year. I'm talking about Trace Face.Tracy came to meet her newest love, Max. I have to admit, Max was extremely fond of Tracy - almost adoring like. She hung out with him for hours and they bonded. The picture above comes straight from bonding moments on Easter morning.
Did you know they now sell egg nog on Easter? They have it hidden in a pink container, but it is without a question the same egg nog at Christmas. In fact, when I drank some I could almost hear the jingle bells. It was odd, but delicious.
Tracy got a summer hat in her basket for her many summer excursions to the beach. New York skin is very white and burnable.
I got me a shirt that says, "Smurfin' It!" in my Easter basket. Awesome! It was the smurfiest Easter gift ever! Smurfette gave it to me.
Our baskets.
After our festivities we headed outside for an absolutely gorgeous Easter morning. I took advantage of the day to take some spring pictures. This has been a very uncharacteristic week in Chicago with 80 degree weather. Usually it is still frickin' coldalicious.
That's Caitlin and Tracy in the far off distance.
Behind dead winter branches sprout blue blossoms of spring. Yes, you can kick me in the crotch for speaking so lamely.
My chicks smile at the camera.
And then there is precious us in front of the homey homes. Seriously, what a perfect day. Conference, Easter, the Risen Lord, candy, smurf shirts, warm air...amazing.
Oh, and let's not forget my boy. So cute. I feel like in this picture he is saying, "yeah...I'm thuggin, so don't front cause I'm straight up gettin' my Easter on."
Mom and son!
Then we went back and Caitlin made homemade cinnamon rolls!
When this woman is working the yeast, she doesn't mess around.
And they turned out with a springy flare. Plus - they were awesome. She included raisins and walnuts.
Then it was back to conference...and maybe I had like 4 cinnamon rolls during one afternoon session.
The only bad part about Easter? Having to watch Tracy say goodbye to Max. He was a little bit in denial, but he'll always remember her goodness to him. We had a great time and hope you all had a very happy Easter.

Lincoln Would Be Proud

Spring we love you. As you begin to warm our bodies, we begin to go out more. It is a heavenly thing - and Max really enjoys not being so bundled up. So last weekend we decided to check out Lincoln Square. While once a Bavarian dream, this neighborhood has been upgrading itself to an ethnic powerhouse. It was time to take a look.We started at the local German grocery store. Was I surprised to see a bounty of wieners? No.
Were people buying wieners a plenty? Yes.
Bienenstich...a delicious European classic. Honey, almonds, cake, wow.
Caitlin likey. In fact, she became very territorial about her new treat. She eyes some birds who are hoping for a few crumbs. Sorry birds...no way.
Oh my gosh. This kid rocks. He loves to explore.
We checked out a local record store and bought a used copy of Sufjan Steven's "Come on feel the Illinoise" which we have been enjoying. Caitlin fed Max in a coffee shop.
Post feeding? Max is always happy.
A local bookstore caught our attention for a while and we got a gift for a friend there.

A nice couple of blocks. Then we decided to go to a bakery about 1/2 mile north of Lincoln Square.
It ended up being more of a place that you buy cakes. We bought pretty much one of everything they had that wasn't an entire cake.
A tasty little collection of goodness.

It did make for good picture taking with our baby boy.
Caitlin and I noticed that we don't have a ton of pictures of her and Max together, so we are going to change that. They look really cute together. Don't you agree?

The Face of Easter Morning

Max found a lot of eggs this morning...unfortunately, his dad ate all the candy inside. Sorry buster.
