Fun fun fun fun fun, fun fun fun fun fun fun
Last night Caitlin and I went to see M.I.A. In concert at the Vic theater. We skipped opening act Rye Rye and opted to put Max to sleep before our babysitter Sarah got here. He complied, and we made it with sufficient time.
We had seen her before after Kala came out. I have been a supporter of the new album since day one, but Caitlin has really only found herself liking a song or two. Well, Caitlin was rewarded with many songs performed from previous albums. Bamboo Banger, Galang, Boys, XR2, Sunshowers, and of course the infamous Paper Planes. I was pretty excited to hear some new songs, and in general she got some of the ones I wanted: Teqkilla, Luvalot, My Story to be Told, Born Free, Illy Girl, and Steppin Up (one of my favorites of the night). She did a rendition of It Takes a Muscle that fell a little flat...I think overall she might be struggling to perform her new album in a way that gets a crowd going, which is why I was surprised she didn't play XXXO, Internet Connection or my favorite, Meds and Feds. Weird.
It felt so amazing to be out at a concert with Caitlin for the first time since Max, dancing, singing, jumping and going crazy. When it got done at 11 (my biggest complaint...she only played one hour!), we felt like we had a whole night ahead of us. It was very liberating. We got some Slurpees and headed home to find Sarah okay and Max asleep. Nice. I look forward to more of these nights in "Rocktober" with Sleigh Bells, Deadmau5, LCD Soundsystem, and Band of Horses.
M.I.A., we love you.
