The Final Hours and Goodbyes

We woke up Sunday, our last day of vacation. Boooooo! Regardless of that depressing fact looming before us, we went forward with hardcoreness never before seen. First stop, the dole plantation for ice cream.

When I say ice cream, I mean pineapple ice cream.

I'm serious. We didn't take a tour or look at anything. We zoomed in, consumed their ice cream and then peaced out like whoa.

It was good.

Our core activity was Pearl Harbor. While I may make light of the day on this blog, the experience was truly moving and helped me regain what may have been a lost sense of pride in our country as of late. Maybe not lost, diminished.

Those who survived on the USS Arizona. This list is much shorter than the death list.

We took a boat over to the Arizona memorial. It was epic time for cute max shots. Bek, Judes and Jeff go well along side Max.

Adorable. He really likes the breeze on the boat.

This is the memorial. It sits over the actual sunken ship where the victims were buried alive. It's quite beautiful and really helps one to imagine what it must have been like to sit and watch the planes fly in.

We were kind of an entourage around Max. He attracts a lot of attention like a celebrity. I honestly have no idea where Lynn was in all these photos.

The roof of the memorial.

Because the harbor is shallow, parts of the USS Arizona still rises above the water. A little bit of oil leeks out each day.

It is humbling to stand above the tomb of so many people. I strongly recommend you go if you are ever at Oahu.

Heading back to the dock we started getting crazy. We knew the vacation must soon come to an end.

Max, pulling out all the stops.

Want to know how Max felt about going home? See above. I think we all felt that way, but it was a wicked awesome trip and I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks to everyone (aka Judes and Lynn) who made that trip possible.

And to you Hawaii? I will return!!!
